Tarot Journaling: The Lovers
August 16, 2025

Begin or deepen your exploration of the Tarot Lovers card with me this September. How do you love? What fills your being with joy and fires your capacity to love others, yourself, and the world around you? We write to a wide variety of tarot card imagery, we reflect on our lived experiences of the card under study, and we create personal tarot card art based on 1) our lived experience and 2) our “wished for” experience. The new card we create acts as a both a witnessing and a visionary tool. The level of inquiry and heart connection experienced in these courses is what drives me to keep teaching them.

Tarot Journaling: The Lovers: Runs on Sundays over zoom 2:00-3:30 pm PST / 5:00-6:30 pm starting Sunday, September 7th and ending on Sunday, October 12th. Offered by Antioch University Continuing Education (Online). Course Cost is $100.

In this six-week course we explore how the Lovers, Major Arcanum VI, symbolizes the energy of all forms of love. Though we often call this card the Lovers, it signifies at its core how you, the singular lover, choose to love: how you engage with self-love, romantic love, family, community, co-workers, the natural world and even the passions you pursue.

The four Minor Arcana Sixes in the tarot deck offer a chance to reflect on the questions about how we’ve encountered the energy of love in the past and how we’d like to change our approach to love heading into the present and future:

How do we open our hearts to seeking out other people with whom we can offer and receive innocent and trusting love as equals? (Six of Cups)

How do we kindly and respectfully evaluate fair wages and exchanges for services both physical and energetic? (Six of Disks)

How do we make peace with the mind’s reactions when it is time to say goodbye to something we love, neither denying the emotions nor stopping forward motion? (Six of Swords)

How can we celebrate the passion’s focus that helped us achieve a goal that can now be joyfully recognized in the community? (Six of Wands)

These are the kinds of in-depth questions we will address in writing and discussion. You will learn a method for tarot journaling and a handful of other simple tools designed to help you begin and deepen your relationship to tarot. You’ll have the optional opportunity to create a personal tarot card using your own personal symbols that resonate for you. No prior experience with the tarot or with art-making is necessary. Tarot images from a variety of decks will be provided, though you are welcome to work with your own deck of choice.
