“Love is all you need…” But from whom and in what ways? I remember when a beloved family member was going through a divorce, we ironically planned an open mic event with the title, “Love is all you need…” but underneath that hopeful refrain from that beautiful song by the Beatles ran an undercurrent of sorrow. And many other mixed emotions…Sometimes you need more than love to keep some kinds of love afloat, if that makes sense. And goodbye becomes hello…to the self, emerging back into the world to love solo across all forms of love again.
The surest form of love we have is the love we give to ourselves. Truly. So regardless of the valentines (small v) in your circumference, I hope you will be your own Valentine and give yourself the gift of some love. Gather up some beauty for beautiful you—flowers from your own garden or neighborhood, favorite photographs, your favorite art that makes you happy, your favorite poem, maybe even your favorite tarot card and set it out.
